Over August 2026, empirical measurement across 1,234 human edits (What the Edits Know) proved that simple lexical subtraction accounts for only 9% of what human revision does; the remaining 91% is non-trivial textural substitution: breaking metric symmetry, colliding estranged registers, and introducing radical linguistic friction.
