# POETICS — Babbies

## Display title
Babbies

## Display synopsis
On the Slumping Shelf—a warm, cantilevered terrace overlooking the Violet Sump—Ollie tends the bubbling, mooey-stewy vats of golden synth fats where vegan protein cutlets grow like savory, floating velvet cushions. Ollie's sole companion is Clack: a talkative, pastel-lilac clamshell flip phone with a telescoping wire antenna, a dramatic mechanical hinge, and a four-bar battery charged exclusively on friction, warm tea vapors, and whispered affirmations. When the Quota-Inspector arrives on a squeaking monowheel to audit the chew-density and tax the sizzle, Ollie and Clack must defend the "babbies"—the tender, newborn cutlets that haven't yet hardened into commercial protein blocks—against the absurd, self-important efficiency of the Grown-Up World.

## The Poetic Churn: Entwined Modalities
The prose moves in a continuous, churned friction between two transposed engines:
1. **The Transposed Seussian Torque**:
   - Elastic compound nouns, buoyant auditory friction, kinetic contraptions with too many brass spigots, and bouncy phonemic joy (*gurgle-vats, skim-spades, chew-calipers, mooey-fat*).
   - Wild neo-psychedelic domesticity: a world that operates on whimsical physical machinery, warm broths, and rhythmic chores, rendered with playful, charming grace.
   - **Transposition Rule**: NO literal green eggs or nursery rhymes. The surreal food culture is industrial-cozy: vegan cutlets cultured in simmering tubs of spiced lipid-broth.
2. **The Transposed Exupéry Gravity**:
   - Candid, piercing simplicity; unadorned emotional sincerity; the uncanny melancholy of small beings inhabiting vast, strange architectures.
   - The tragedy of grown-up fixations (counting, measuring, auditing, categorizing what they cannot feel).
   - **Transposition Rule**: NO roses, volcanoes, or deserts. The sacred, demanding intimacy of the beloved object is transferred entirely to **Clack**, the talkative flip phone—vain, melodramatic, terrified of dropped signals, yet holding Ollie's private world in its 16-kilobyte memory.

## Register & Tone
Funny, cozy, intimate, and surreal. It should be an absolute delight to read aloud: tactile and buoyant, yet carrying a quiet, resonant ache in its ribs. The humor comes from deadpan domesticity inside preposterous physics; the intimacy comes from two odd, fragile creatures caring for each other while the broth simmers.

## Dialect & Soundscape
- **Hinge mechanics**: Clack speaks with physical punctuation—sharp snaps (*THWAP-CLACK*), half-open mumbles, and squeaks of its spring hinge.
- **Vat acoustics**: The constant, rhythmic respiration of the vats (*plup-glug, gloop-sigh, sizzle-hiss*).
- **Candid inquiry**: Ollie speaks without defensive scaffolding. Observations are delivered with clean, child-like literalism that renders adult bureaucracy absurd.

## The Transposed Reservoirs
- **The Rose ⟶ The Flip Phone (Clack)**: Demanding, prone to low-battery swoons, complaining about lint in its charging port, insisting it has only three bars of reception between itself and the infinite void, yet fiercely protective of Ollie.
- **The Fox ⟶ The Cutlets / The Babbies**: Intimacy requires patience; a cutlet cannot be rushed or it turns to gristle. To tend the broth is to tame the protein.
- **The King / Geographer ⟶ The Quota-Inspector (Inspector Grod)**: A man so busy calculating the caloric velocity of lunch that he has never once tasted anything hot.

## Refused
- Direct pastiche or parody: no anapestic rhyming doggerel; no "once upon a time"; no faux-French philosophical maxims.
- Cynicism, snark, or smug satire. The story is genuinely kind, even to the Inspector.
- Erotic or suggestive phrasing: this is an absurdist parable; cut any language implying eros (e.g. no "juicy flow").
- Repeating AI stock tropes: absolutely no "pears", "pear-shaped", or bruised persimmons. Replace that tired register with resilient, idiosyncratic physics—like a squished dark plum trodden in the gravel that springs back to form with a stubborn little crease.
- Animal-derived culinary references: strictly no "tallow", animal lard, dairy "butter", or animal fats. Every substance is plant-derived or biochemically cultured—fermented seed-lipids, pressed shea-oil, sunflower-tallow (strictly botanical), flax-waxed cloth, and drift-alder wood, with subtle biochemical culinary cues.
- Disembodied mental reflections: **every sentence must involve a concrete perception or a tangible phenomenon** (a sound, texture, smell, click, temperature, or physical behavior), never merely abstract interior ruminations.
- Run-on sentences: avoid and beware the rambling run-on sentence, keeping clauses agile, crisp, and rhythmic; use longer cascading syntax only when deployed deliberately for musical variety or comic momentum.
- Standard AI tells: contrast reframes ("not X, but Y"), somatic cliches ("breath he didn't know he was holding"), unearned cosmic codas.
- Food waste or gross-out humor: the synth fats are warm, fragrant, savory, and deeply nourishing.

## The Test of the Piece
The reader should laugh at Clack's theatrical vanity, smell the toasted sesame and simmering fat, and feel a sudden, quiet catch in the throat when Ollie snaps the phone shut to keep the rain off its screen.
